Aug 11,  · Julia Holter's new album, Loud City Song, comes out August (Rick Bahto/Courtesy of the artist) In the last seconds of the string-laden, heavy-burdened "World," the opening track from Loud City Song, everything drops out except for a voice that sings with hopeless deflation, "How can I escape you?"Julia Holter has always had a flair for not only drama, but also the dramatic.

Rating: Julia Holter’s third record, Loud City Song, is an aural conundrum, an album that does not lend itself willingly to zululardrelaanayariel.xyzinfor on your first spin or your 10th, what stands out is how truly incomparable it is. On second thought, maybe one could use the solo albums of Nico as a reference point, not so much in a similarity of sound but in a shared aesthetic of otherworldliness.

Aug 12,  · Julia Holter has always had a flair for not only drama, but also the dramatic. She's loosely based albums on Greek tragedies and the classic New Wave French film Last Year at Marienbad. And on Loud City Song, due out August 20, Holter looks to the musical film Gigi for her third album in as many years.

the packaging looks unassuming, but the inner sleeves are very nice black anti-static sleeves, which is a huge positive in my books. I can't find any faults with the pressing quality, which of course is essential given all the silent passages in the music. mastering is crucially silent for this type of music, allowing all the dynamic contrast. the music itself is great, of course. recommended!

Aug 07,  · Soon we’ll be able to hear Loud City Song, Holter’s third album in three years and first proper studio effort, and we’ve already ready gotten a preview with “World” and “In The Green.
  7. Tegor says:
Julia Holter announced her art-house credentials on her fine album Ekstasy with a song inspired by the famously restaurant in “Maxim’s I and II”. Julia Holter. Loud City Song.
  8. Shaktitaxe says:
"There's a flavor to the sound of walking no one ever noticed before," Julia Holter sings at one point on her third album, Loud City Song, and if anyone could notice that, it would be her. Holter excels at bringing emotional depth to her high-concept music and never more so than on this set of songs, which feels as ambitious as Tragedy and Ekstasis, but more down to earth.9/
